"Scotland has challenging carbon emissions reduction targets to meet and a key role to play in the European renewables revolution. It may be a small country, but Scotland is well placed both politically and geographically to help lead activity to develop and deploy the technologies required to increase the amount of electricity produced from renewable sources and help tackle climate change. We need to ensure that the electricity produced from our wind, waves and water reaches centres of demand and is both reliable and secure and so new infrastructure will be required. In planning and building this new infrastructure, we must ensure that we minimise its social and environmental impacts, and I am pleased that the RGI is facilitating and leading the debate on how this can be achieved."
